Applying eyeliner
Precise eyeliner can take your make-up to the next level. However, applying eyeliner can be a real challenge, especially for beginners. We'll show you how to apply the perfect eyeliner in this make-up tip. Whether classic black, dramatic cat eyes, or colorful and creative, with our tips and tricks, applying eyeliner is child's play!

Step by Step

LOOK 1: Classic eyeliner
Look straight in the mirror and start by drawing a fine line with a black eyeliner pencil with a firm and precise felt tip. Start at the lower waterline of your eye and draw in the direction of your eyebrow.
As we are applying an eyeliner suitable for everyday use, the line should not be too long.

Create the connection to the upper waterline
Start at the end of the first line and draw straight back to the eye with the eyeliner. The line should end at the upper waterline. The aim is to create a wing that is discreet and narrow. This also prevents the eyeliner from disappearing under the eyelid if your eyelids droop a bit.

Finalize eyeliner
Now fill in the area between the lines. If you wish, you can draw a fine connecting line along your lashes to the wing.
EXPERT TIP
You can intensify any eyeliner look by creating a thicker and fuller-looking lash line.
Use a slanted brush with firmer bristles, moisten it with the pigments from your eyeliner and work the color precisely into the gaps between the lashes and the upper waterline.

LOOK 2: Cat eyes
Start with a subtle eyeliner and then build up to a cat-eye look.
- Using black eyeliner, draw a line from the lower waterline towards your eyebrow.
- Connect the end of the first line drawn with the upper waterline of your eye.
- Apply the eyeliner over your lash line to create a connection to the wing.

Tapered inner corner of the eye
Cat eyes are characterized by sharp, precise lines that give a slightly almond-shaped, seductive expression.
Raise your eyebrows slightly and apply eyeliner to the inner corner of your eyes. Draw the first line in the direction of the lash line.
Add the tip to the inner corner of the eye by looking straight into the mirror. Continue the line to the lower lash line.

Connect the lines with the wing
Slide the eyeliner close to the upper lash line until the connection to the wing is created. Start with dotted lines and reinforce the line as desired.

Perfect your wing
Lower your chin slightly and extend the wing further outwards. Adjust the thickness of the wing to the line above the lashes and perfect the tip.

Emphasize the waterline
Grab a waterproof eyeliner with a soft tip, as you are now drawing on the waterline.
Emphasize the inner corner of your eye by filling in the entire upper lash line.

LOOK 3: Eyeliner with dot
Using a long-lasting eyeliner, draw a line close to the lashes from the inner corner of the eye outwards. No wing is drawn with this look, so your eyeliner should end at the outer corner of the eye.
The dot on the lower lash line should be in line with your pupil. To do this, look straight into the mirror and draw the point with circular movements.
The tip of the eyeliner is held against the eye with applied eyeliner and a creative dot on the lower lash line.

FAQs
Eyeliner comes in a wide variety of forms: With a felt tip, liquid, gel, or pencil (link). They have a more intense color than kajal pencils and are intended for sharp, precise eyelid lines.
Kajal pencils (kohl eyeliner, or other eyeliner pencils) differ in their application and result depending on the degree of hardness and the texture. While kajal pencils with a hard tip are also suitable for precise lines, soft kajals are easier to blend out and can be used for smokey eyes, soft transitions or the waterline, for example.
Eyeliner with a felt tip has a firm, precise tip that allows for easy and controlled application. Thanks to the stable shape, fine and precise lines can be drawn without blurring. This eyeliner is particularly suitable for classic eyeliner lines or an elegant cat eye, as it provides clear definition and an even result.
Liquid eyeliner comes with a narrow, flexible brush tip that ensures maximum precision. This type of eyeliner is ideal for sharp wings and curved, flexible lines. Particularly creative make-up looks, such as graphic liner or double eyelid lines, can be achieved particularly cleanly and expressively with liquid eyeliner.
Eyeliner pencils are characterized by their soft, easily blendable texture, which is particularly comfortable to apply. They are perfect for tightlining as they can be applied gently to the waterline without irritation. They are also ideal for soft, smoky eyeliner or intense smokey eyes, as they can be blended effortlessly to create a soft, diffused effect.
Eyeliners with a felt tip are ideal for beginners as they are easy to use and produce clean lines. But start with a small wing or use brown eyeliner.
Also try pencil eyeliner for more natural eyeliner looks that are blended out and have a smokier effect, for example.
The classic eyeliner look fits every eye shape and is therefore perfect for beginners. Applied with a felt-tipped eyeliner, a precise and long-lasting line is guaranteed.
Tightlining, also known as lash-line thickening, is a technique in which gaps between the lashes on the upper lash line are filled in. The result is a thicker, fuller-looking lash line. Use softer, waterproof eyeliner in pencil form.
Choosing the right eyeliner color can make your eyes shine! While classic black always works, there are a variety of harmonious and complementary shades that will bring out your natural eye color even more.
Brown eyes: dark blue, bronze, violet
Blue eyes: brown, copper, navy blue
Green eyes: eggplant, gold, dark green
